Library Holdings

A shared legacy.

Our current holdings were established in 2020 through the merger of three historic libraries: the "Walter Bigiavi" library of Economics, the library of the Department of Economics, and the library of the Department of Management ("Giuseppe Testoni"). The main building, a landmark of modern architecture, was designed in the 1960s by architect Enzo Zacchiroli.

The Collections

  • "Walter Bigiavi" Library: specialising in economics, law and sociology, it holds prestigious collections such as the Bigiavi Collection (commercial and bankruptcy law), the Accademia Nazionale di Ragioneria Collection, the Guglielmo Gola Collection (tax law), and the Andrea Ginzburg Collection (political economy, applied economics and public finance).
  • Department of Economics : this collection focuses on economic "classics" and global socio-economic issues, including the Andreatta and Australian Embassy collections. It is characterised by the use of the JEL (Journal of Economic Literature) classification, adopted since the 1970s for the systematic organisation of the scientific literature produced in the field of economics.
  • "Giuseppe Testoni" Library, Department of Management: a key resource for management, marketing and business accounting, it holds an extensive collection of financial statements and business case studies.

Rare and Antiquarian Books
The library preserves a valuable core of antiquarian books (16th–18th century), comprising over 400 volumes of particular historical value, alongside rare first editions by leading economists such as Keynes and Pigou.
