Workspace – Datastream

Workspace is the comprehensive database, and Datastream is the application that enables queries directly from the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The database is produced by LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group), previously by Refinitiv and, before that, by Thomson Reuters. It is among the most important databases internationally in the economic and financial field. Global geographical coverage is updated daily in Datastream and in real time in Workspace. The time coverage varies for each series.

Data can be downloaded as historical time series directly into an Excel spreadsheet.

The database is structured into the following sections:

• Equity securities (+ETFs), bonds and CDSs
• Equity and bond market indices
• Interest and exchange rates
• Futures, options, warrants
• Investment funds
• Commodities
• Macroeconomic data (sources: national statistical offices, central banks, Eurostat, IMF, OECD, WB)
• Refinitiv ESG indicators (formerly Asset4)

Access and booking

Access to Workspace – Datastream is restricted to academic staff and students of the University of Bologna, for research and study purposes only.

Workspace – Datastream is available to students and PhD students via a dedicated workstation at the Walter Bigiavi Library during its opening hours. Since the subscription terms allow only one user at a time, booking is required and can be made by writing to the address below.

Anyone unable to visit the library in person may also write to the address below to arrange access.

The database can also be accessed at the Rimini Campus B.L.U. Central Library the 'Software' workstation must be booked via the Affluences platform.
