Access, reception and consultation

Access to spaces and resources, reception at the library and consultation of bibliographic and documentary materials.

Access and reception

The reading rooms and service point share a single entrance, at Via Belle Arti 33.
There is a reception desk you can contact for information about all services.
The reading rooms, spread across the various floors, can accommodate 300 people in total. Available seats are in high demand, especially among students. To make access as fair as possible, we ask you to share your seat whenever you leave it unoccupied for an extended period.

All areas of the library are covered by the Alma WiFi network.
Eating and drinking are not permitted in the library, except for water, and scooters, skateboards and similar items may not be brought in.
In the evening hours, from 7pm, and at the weekend, you can access the library by scanning your Unibo badge or, if you are not affiliated with the University, by showing a form of identification.

Consultation

You can request up to six books at a time for on-site consultation, after presenting a valid form of identification.
In the case of textbooks (shelfmark: TESTOESAME), consultation is limited to one book at a time and is reserved for users of the University of Bologna: students and academic staff.

How does it work?

  • Journals held by the library are for reference only and cannot be borrowed
  • The most recent volume of each currently subscribed journal is displayed on open shelves on the ground floor.
  • Earlier volumes must be requested at the issue desk and collected upon presenting a form of identification.
  • Up to three volumes can be consulted at a time.
  • Books and journals must be consulted within the library and must always be returned by the end of the same day.

The hours for issuing books for consultation are the same as those of the loan service.
Return of reference materials: books and journals received for consultation must be returned to the staff at the reception desk by the following times:
Monday-Tuesday: by 6:45pm
Saturday: by 5:30pm
Sunday: by 1:45pm
Books on loan can be returned at any time during the library's opening hours. Returns must be registered at the self-service point located in front of the reception desk.
